The NSW Government has adopted the Yarranabbe Park Plan of Management insofar as it affects the Crown land component of the park at Darling Point.

The three fig trees on the periphery of the park that Woollahra Council proposes to remove are located on land that is wholly owned and controlled by Woollahra Council.

“In the circumstances, the statutory powers of the Crown Lands Act 1989 cannot be applied to influence any decision that Council may make in respect of the affected trees,” said Graham Harding, General Manager, Crown Lands, Department of Primary Industries.

“Council’s street tree strategy is outside the remit of a Plan of Management made under the Crown Lands Act.

“Therefore, the adoption is limited to the Crown Reserve component of the park only.

“This partial adoption will allow Council to get on with the task of general improvements to Yarranabbe Park.

“I can appreciate the concerns of the community regarding the proposed removal and replacement of the three fig trees,”
Mr Harding said.

“Concerned residents should take this matter up with Woollahra Council, being the owner of the land.”
