Some of the extensive work of Tweed farmers to revegetate creek banks and control erosion will be on show at an information session in Cobaki on Sunday 28 October.

As the highly successful Fish Friendly Farms in the Tweed project draws to a close, NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) and Tweed Shire Council are holding the information session at one of the properties involved in the project. “Funding was made available for farmers within the Cobaki and Terranora Broadwater catchments to improve fish habitat and farm productivity by rehabilitating their part of the Tweed River catchment,” said DPI Fisheries Conservation Manager, Scott Nichols.

“We had strong interest from local property owners, with funding provided to ten properties so they could take part in creek bank revegetation activities.

“Six properties were also identified for further investigation into works that will control creek bank erosion.

“This will go a long way to improving aquatic health issues identified through the Tweed Shire Council’s Ecosystem Health monitoring program,” he said.

“Thanks to the generosity of one of the landholders involved in the project, this event is a great way to hear from someone involved and see the results firsthand.

“It is also a way for other local landholders to learn about the ecological status of Cobaki and Terranora Broadwaters, what makes good and bad fish habitat and what can be done to improve farm management and fish habitat along Cobaki, Piggabeen, Duroby, and Bilambil Creeks,” Mr Nichols said.

The information session and site visit will be held in Cobaki on Sunday 28 October at 10am.
