The Soil Conservation Service at Wellington has won awards for safety and the Indigenous apprentice of the year at the Skillset Awards announced in Dubbo today.

"SCS is very proud to have won Skillset’s Jim Todman Safety Award, recognising our committed to providing a safe workplace for staff," said General Manager Paul Jones.

"The award acknowledges the safety systems at SCS and we are excited about going on to the regional titles next month," Mr Jones said.

"We are also very proud of Tim Cusack who won Skillset’s Indigenous Apprentice of the Year for Dubbo.

"Skillset employs over 400 apprentices and trainees across the central west so it is no small feat for Tim to be recognised.

"Tim was nominated for this award in light of the dedication he has shown to his apprenticeship and training.  But it also reflects the mentoring role of Henry Wilcockson who manages the Wellington workshop.

"Tim was a highly valued member of the SCS team and has now moved on to further his career elsewhere.'

Both awards were presented in Dubbo today and the SCS winners go on to compete in Skillset’s regional awards on
25 May.

Skillset (formerly the Central West Group Apprentices) makes these awards to recognise the achievements of apprentices, trainees and host companies.

The SCS is a state government business providing world-class solutions for environmental protection, rehabilitation and land management. It trains heavy equipment apprentices at its workshop in Wellington.
