The Department of Primary Industries today announced the formal adoption of a Plan of Management for the Seal Rocks Holiday Park on the mid north coast.

The draft plan was placed on public exhibition from 23 March to 21 May 2010 and attracted a wide range of comments from the community, visitors and general public, said Karen Hembrow, Director North of the department’s Crown Lands Division.

“A review of submissions and further consultation with stakeholder groups has resulted in a considerably scaled down and balanced approach to the development of the holiday park to address many of the issues raised,” Ms Hembrow said.

“The holiday park, located near Forster, adjoins the Myall Lakes National Park and is close to littoral rainforest.

“Environmental assessments will be undertaken for all improvement works including an upgraded sustainable water supply system and waste water treatment and disposal system.

“The plan of management ensures continued cooperation with National Parks with ongoing weed control programs, boundary fencing, a revised fire mitigation plan and restoration of unauthorised bush tracks.

“The holiday park focus is more on caravan and camping sites and the landscaping will complement the rainforest setting and village character.

“A swimming pool, community building and café that were proposed in the original draft plan have been excluded.

“This project is another example of the State Plan in action, providing improved and sustainable resource management and enhanced environmental and social outcomes for local communities.”
