People who work with pole saws will have the chance to improve their skills and safety with the machine at a nationally accredited one-day NSW Department of Primary Industries PROfarm course on pole saw operation in Grafton.

The course is intended for farmers, road builders, council workers, forestry workers and many others in similar occupations who use this equipment for work.

“The course will be delivered by trainer Rickey Peters who has 30 years of experience in the log felling industry,” said PROfarm course co-ordinator Julie Chapman.

“It will be presented at Grafton on 27 July and will be limited to six participants to deliver quality training. The registration close date is 19 July.

“Participants will learn how to prepare a pole saw for trimming, assess trees before trimming, identify hazards, follow occupational health and safety requirements and conduct operator maintenance.

“This course will give participants the skills required to safely operate a mechanical pole saw for trimming high branches to industry standards, using low risk techniques in a range of situations.

“No previous chainsaw experience is required.”

Ms Chapman said the course fee would be $290 GST free.

A pole saw would be provided for the duration of the course and attendees would receive a certificate on successful completion of the course.
