Recreational fishers have the opportunity to present their catch to the world by submitting their favourite fishing photo into the 2013 Recreational Fishing Calendar competition.

NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI) Recreational Fishing Programs Manager, Bryan van der Walt, said the twelve best fishing photos will be published in the 2013 calendar.

"If your photograph is published, you will have the satisfaction of seeing your work in print for others to enjoy," Mr van der Walt said.

"All entrants will receive a free copy of the calendar and also have the chance to win some great prizes."

Mr van der Walt said almost 300 entries were received for last year’s calendar and he hopes the number of entries will be higher this year.

"I encourage all fishers to take their camera along next time they go fishing and record their favourite fishing experience on camera," he said.

"The judges will be looking for shots that capture the moment – something out of the ordinary that can’t be easily recreated.

"The competition is open to anyone who uses a camera and takes a picture that illustrates their interest in recreational fishing."

Photos can be entered online or by post, but entries must be received by July 31, 2012.

Mr van der Walt said the recreational fishing calendar is extremely popular with thousands of fishers around the state.

"In addition to great photographs, the calendar provides information on closures, bag limits, legal sizes and possession limits."

"One fish species is highlighted each month so that anglers can learn more about that species."

The recreational fishing calendar is produced each year using funds from the Recreational Fishing Trust.
