Landholders learn to profit from river red gums

Private native forestry (PNF) is a growing enterprise and now free field days at Mathoura on Monday July 23 and Moulamein on Wednesday July 25 offer local landholders the opportunity to learn how to manage their own forestry operation.

NSW Department of Primary Industries natural resources forestry and agriculture leader, Andrew Kennedy, said the field day would outline the river red gum PNF code of practice.

"Along with opportunities to boost commercial outcomes, a healthy native forest enhances farm biodiversity, offers environmental benefits and can provide shelter and shade for livestock," Mr Kennedy said.

"Participants will get the latest information on forest management and the PNF regulatory process.

"They will learn how to successfully manage a healthy and sustainable native forest and find out how to work with the forestry industry."

Making PNF pay, harvesting, forestry measurements, the PNF approval process, regulatory requirements and hands-on activities will feature at the field day, which is supported by the NSW Environment Protection Authority.

The field day will run from 8.30 am until 3.00 pm, with lunch and morning tea provided for participants.
