The 2012 Hidden Treasure Honour Roll has recognised 126 women from regional NSW who have contributed to the social wellbeing of the community through voluntary activities.

Department of Primary Industries (DPI) Rural Women’s Network spokesperson, Sonia Muir, said the 2012 Hidden Treasures Honour Roll, was this month unveiled at the NSW Rural Women’s Gathering in Parkes.

"The initiative provides an opportunity to acknowledge and archive the valuable volunteer role local women play," Mrs Muir said.

"Many inspiring and dedicated women continue to support their community in a diverse range of unpaid activities and we want thank them.

"Regional and rural groups and charities, including the Red Cross, Cancer Council, Meals on Wheels, hospitals, fire brigades and rescue services would struggle to survive without the help of volunteers."

The names of local women who feature on the 2012 Hidden Treasure Honour Roll can be found on the DPI website, www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/rwn

The Hidden Treasures Honour Roll is a joint project of DPI Rural Women’s Network, NSW Centre for Volunteering and Women NSW as a way of celebrating and documenting the important and diverse roles women volunteers play within NSW rural communities.
