The General Manager of Crown Lands, Graham Harding, has asked the community to have it say on a revised Plan of Management for Yasmar Reserve in Haberfield.

The revised plan was in response to feedback on an initial draft of 2008, and now incorporated the entire Yasmar Reserve as well as an updated Conservation Management Plan.

“A lot of work has gone into improving these documents to ensure we have the best chance of preserving this important public reserve for generations to come,” Mr Harding said.

“Importantly, an updated Conservation Management Plan has been prepared to accompany and inform the Plan of Management with a clear focus on the historic homestead and gardens built in the 1850s.

“Whilst acknowledging the need to preserve the integrity of the site, the updated Conservation Plan notes the historic tripartite layout of the original holdings, as well as the need to acknowledge and preserve aspects of its use as a remand centre in the 60 years following the Second World War.

“Yasmar House is one of the last examples of the grand houses that lined Parramatta Road in the nineteenth century,” he said.

The revised Plan of Management and the Conservation Management Plan will be on display for 42 days and can be accessed on line at www.crownland.nsw.gov.au

Hard copies are available for viewing at the Parramatta Office of Crown Lands, Level 12, 10 Valentine Avenue, Parramatta, Ashfield Council, 260 Liverpool Road, Ashfield and Haberfield Library, 78 Dalhousie Street, Haberfield.

Public submissions will be received until 3 August.

“I encourage the community to read the documents and provide comments,” Mr Harding said.

“By working with the community we can ensure a secure future for this unique site in Sydney’s inner west.”
