Guided tours of cereal, canola and pulse variety trial plots will be a feature of the NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI) activities at Henty Machinery Field Days on September 18-20.

NSW DPI regional director south west, Giles Butler, said NSW DPI agronomists would conduct twice daily tours at 11am and 2pm through the trial plots – showcasing more than 118 crop varieties planted next to the NSW DPI site at Henty.

The trial plots include most of the new varieties that may be released next season that are currently under trial across NSW in one of the many National Variety Trials managed by NSW DPI," he said.

"They give an insight into the localised performance of some of the wheat and canola varieties that may be released in the future.

"The canola should be flowering during Henty giving the field day site a spectacular splash of colour."

Mr Butler said NSW DPI agronomists would be available throughout Henty to provide advice to producers.

"If you need advice on animal or plant biosecurity, feed testing, financial management or agricultural education - it‟s all available at the NSW DPI stand," he said.

The new "Climate Dogs‟ video that explains Australia's weather patterns in a simple and creative way will be on show and representatives from the Wagga Wagga Feed Quality Service will be on hand to outline the advantages of testing your feed.

Farmers in particular are invited to undertake the Men's Health Pitstop at the NSW DPI stand. This health screening test conducted by Murrumbidgee Medical covers eight stations checking cholesterol, blood pressure and other important indicators of your health.

Others on site include:

  • NSW Rural Assistance Authority
  • NSW DPI's Tocal College, chemical and SMARTtrain courses
  •  Fodder Industry Association
  • Australian Tax Office
  • NSW Police Rural Crime Investigations Unit
  • Prostate Cancer Support group

The NSW DPI stand will feature a range of DPI publications covering agricultural industries and farmers will be able to get a copy of the 'Farmer of the Year' application form.
