NSW Sustaining the Basin: Border Rivers-Gwydir pilot project
An irrigation infrastructure modernisation pilot was carried out in 2010/2011 in the Gwydir and NSW Border Rivers catchments to assess the potential of irrigation infrastructure modernisation to capture water for the environment.
Two funding rounds were conducted in the pilot Project achieving the following results:
- a total of 38 applications received
- 15 applications were approved for funding and 12 of these continued to complete works
- contributed approximately $5.8 million to the local economy including irrigator contributions of approximately $1.2 million
- transferred 1274 ML of general security regulated river water access entitlements to the environment
- delivered 13 training workshops to 176 participants
