The Country Web Number 56

The Country Web Number 56 Autumn 2012

Our Number 56 edition of The Country Web has the theme Our Farmers - Our Future. This edition joins in the 2012 national celebration of Australian Year of the Farmer.

Farmers contribute to just about every aspect of our life - farming feeds, supports and sustains us. This very special year is putting the spotlight on how important primary industries are to all of us no matter where we live.

In this edition you can read stories about women farmers and the role they have played in helping to shape and build our rural industries.

Some of the women featured include:

  • Social media activist and lawyer Danica Leys who won the 2012 NSW & ACT RIRDC Rural Women's Award
  • Corinne Annetts - a boutique goat farmer from Uralla and runner-up in the 2012 Rural Women's Award
  • Fiona Simson - NSW Farmers first woman president
  • Pam Brook - a former Dentist and now gourmet macadamia grower

Just for fun we have included a 'Year of the Farmer Bucket List' with a list of ten activities you may like to try this year as well as a great activity sheet for the kids to see if they are a 'City Slicker' or an 'Australian country legend'.

For the book lovers out there, you have the opportunity to win copies of Ruth, Lead Dust to Red Dust, The Man Who Loved Crocodiles or Women's Words of Wisdom, Power & Passion.
