Southern bluefin tuna breakthrough

The recent news that Clean Seas Tuna (CST) has successfully induced southern bluefin tuna broodstock to spawn in captivity represents a major international achievement and brings the possibility of tuna farming in NSW closer to reality.

NSW DPI are collaborating with CST in a Seafood CRC project to develop larval rearing methods to produce fingerlings.

While there are significant challenges, DPI is ready to help CST further investigate the development of a tuna farming industry in NSW.
